Bayer CropScience’s dedicated and professional teams have worked together with farmers across Australia and New Zealand to continue to innovate in Australia and New Zealand’s unique agricultural conditions.

Milestones

  • Six new products were launched into the Australian market in 2009: Movento®, Belt®, Precept® 300 EC, Prosaro®, Velocity®, and Eclipse® 100 SC.
  • Liberty Link® cotton was launched into the cotton market in May 2007, making Australia the second country globally to launch a Bayer biotech product in this crop.
  • Bayer CropScience undertook a strategic review in 2008 to ensure an exciting future for the business despite tougher than ever environmental and market conditions. Key to the new strategy is an increased focus on the more stable, less fluctuating markets such as horticulture as well as a strengthened focus on customers and partnerships.
  • New Zealand had a record year in 2008 for its seed treatment products with excellent sales of Gaucho®, Poncho® and Raxil®.
  • Field trials began in 2008 with TwinLink® cotton, which has both herbicide and insect resistance traits.

Areas of Expertise

Bayer CropScience operates in three major areas: Crop Protection, Environmental Science and BioScience.

Crop Protection manufactures and supplies high performance insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, growth regulators, cotton defoliants and seed treatments for the broadacre, horticulture and cotton markets.

The Environmental Science division services both professional and consumer pest control in an array of markets across Australia and New Zealand. The division aims to minimise the impact of weeds, rodents, insects, fungi and other pests on humans by providing highly effective, innovative products that are easy and safe to use.

BioScience uses plant biotechnology and other modern plant breeding techniques to improve the quality of crops, increase yields and create sustainable agricultural solutions to meet the increasing global need for food, feed, fibre and fuel.
