Bayer HealthCare is a world leader in developing products to improve and protect the health of people and animals.
Bayer HealthCare discovers, manufactures and markets innovative health care products. This covers the areas of prescription medicines, over-the-counter health products and animal health. There are over 53,000 people working worldwide in Bayer HealthCare with around 390 in Australia and New Zealand.

Milestones

  • YAZ®, a new low dose oral contraceptive pill with a unique 24/4 dosing regime, was successfully launched in Australia in 2008 and achieved outstanding sales results.
  • Nexavar®, the first systemic treatment for liver cancer, was approved for reimbursement on the Australian Pharmaceuticals Benefits Scheme (PBS).
  • Xarelto®, the first oral Factor Xa inhibitor to prevent blood clots in veins after major orthopaedic surgery (total elective hip and knee replacement), was registered in late 2008 and is expected to deliver excellent results for Bayer's pharmaceutical business in 2009 and beyond.
  • Advocate®, a flea and worm control product for cats and dogs, was the most successful selling brand for Bayer Animal Health in 2008, supported by television advertising featuring celebrity veterinarian Dr Katrina Warren.
  • CyclenceTM Ultra insecticide ear tags for control of buffalo fly in cattle was launched very sucessfully.
  • Menevit®, a fertility supplement for men, was launched with great success. It received an award from ASMI (Australian Self Medication Industry) for best 'Introduction of a Consumer Healthcare Product', and was also awarded 'Best PR Campaign' by the Australian Journal of Pharmacy.
  • Products for women and infants such as thrush treatment Canesten®, pregnancy supplement Elevit®, nappy rash ointment Bepanthen® and infant formula Novalac® delivered a strong performance with good growth.
