Bayer Australia - Australian Walkabout Park Partnership

Australian Walkabout Park Partnership

Bayer Australia and Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park on NSW’s Central Coast joined forces to replicate a mysterious and rare colony of the ancient and vulnerable Wollemi Pine.

As a result, 120 Wollemi trees and seedlings have been planted at the Park which is just 50 kilometres east of the famous original colony in the Blue Mountains.

It was presumed the Wollemi Pine had become extinct during the time of the dinosaurs, but a colony was discovered in 1994. The discovery is seen as the equivalent of finding a live dinosaur.

This project was completed as part of the United Nations Billion Trees Program, which successfully saw more than one billion trees planted globally in 2007. Bayer planted 300,000 trees worldwide as part of this program.

Members of the general public are welcome to visit the Park to view the plantation.
