Bayer Australia - Mission Australia

Mission Australia

Mission Australia Transform Homelessness

Since the launch of the partnership in 2005, Bayer has worked with Mission Australia in a variety of ways including staff volunteering and fundraising. Bayer employees have undertaken renovation projects, helped out at playgroups for at risk children, handed out awareness leaflets to the general public and hosted barbeques for homeless men - to name but a few activities.

Taking the partnership up a notch at the end of 2008 was a campaign developed by Bayer called ‘Transform Homelessness’. The aim of Transform Homelessness was not only to raise $60,000 for Mission Australia but also to engage directly with Australians about the important community issue of homelessness. Transform Homelessness used a butterfly – Mission Australia’s symbol of positive transformation – to create a campaign that was both interactive and informative. For every butterfly created and placed on the map, Bayer pledged $1 to Mission Australia.

Public response to the campaign was overwhelming with the target of 60,000 butterflies and a donation of $60,000 to Mission Australia achieved within one month of launch.

Commenting on behalf of Mission Australia, Patrick Flynn, Media Manager NSW & ACT said, “We are thrilled with the success of the campaign. Not only have we reached our goal of creating 60,000 butterflies and raising $60,000 within one month of the campaign going live but we’ve also engaged directly with Australians about an important issue. We rely on the generous support of corporate partners like Bayer to fund our services and the $60,000 raised from this campaign will be vital to support disadvantaged Australians in the coming year.”
